You can easily create custom reminder task types that are used to alert you of upcoming deadlines. These differ from email-based notifications in that they actually appear on your open docket.

For example, let's assume you want a 3-month and a 1-month reminder to file a non-provisional application from a provisional application. This can be accomplished by creating the two custom reminder task types described below.
- Hover over the Tasks module and select Manage Task Types.
- Click the Add button.

- Enter an appropriate Type Name.
- Select the Default Owner.
- Select General Reminder as the Deadline Type.
- Select Use the triggering task respond-by date in the Response Date field. For this example, the 3-month reminder's due date is based on the underlying due date of the Filing itself.
- In the Offset By field, enter -3 for this example. That indicates that the task is due 3 months before the Filing is actually due.
- Click the Add button under Trigger Events.

- Select When a specific task is created for the Event Type.
- Select the appropriate Task Type. For this example, File Non-Provisional Application.
- Click the Ok button.

- To then make the 1 month reminder, click the Save & Duplicate button. You can then just update the Type Name to reflect the 1-month deadline, and change the date offset from -3 to -1 and click Save.

Moving forward, these reminders will generate at the same time a “File Non-Provisional Application” task is generated (i.e., when a provisional application is filed).
Note: Custom task types don't retroactively apply to your existing database. Click here if you wish to regenerate tasks for your new reminders.
