Create Task Types that are Date Dependent

There are instances when a date range affects whether a task should generate. For example, Canadian trademark registrations changed where the renewal period varies depending on the registration date. Specifically, Canadian trademarks registered before June 17, 2019 had a 15 year renewal period. Whereas, Canadian trademarks filed on or after June 17, 2019 have a 10 year renewal period.*

Two task types would be created to distinguish these different dates, as shown below, starting with the 15 year annuity. You can use the following example to set this up.

  1. Hover over the Tasks module and select Manage Task Types.
  2. Click the Add button.

  1. Enter a Type Name, such as “Pay Canadian Trademark Annuity - Registered before June 17, 2019”. 
  2. Select a new Default Owner if needed.
  3. Select “Hard External Deadline” for the Deadline Type. 
  4. Select “Use the matter issue date” for the Response Date.
  5. In Offset By, enter “180” months. 
  6. Click the Add button next to Trigger Events.

  1. Select “When a specific field in any matter changes” for the Event Type.
  2. Select “IssueDate” for the Field.
  3. Click Ok.

  1. Click the Add button again to add another Trigger.

  1. Select “While an expression using the value in a field in the matter is true" for the Event Type.
  2. Select IssueDate for the Field.
  3. Enter “x < #06/17/19#” in the evalutes true in field.
  4. Click Ok.

  1. Click the Add button again.

  1. Select “While a specific field in the matter contains a specific value” in the Event Type field.
  2. Select “Type” for the Field.
  3. Enter "Trademark" in the contains field.
  4. Click Ok. 

  1. Click the Add button one more time.

  1. Select "While a specific field in the matter contains a specific value” in the Event Type field.
  2. Select “CountryCode” for the Field.
  3. Enter "Trademark" in the contains field.
  4. Click Ok. 

  1. Click the Save button. 

 

The following is the example for the 10 year annuity:
